The Arnold and High Volume

This has to be a short post but it's been months, so I figured it's better short than nothing at all.  In two weeks I will be headed to the Arnold Fitness Expo.  If you don't know what it is, it is a massive fitness expo put on by the Terminator himself.  Lots of events including (but not limited to) Might Mits, powerlifting, olympic lifting, bodybuilding, and crossfit.  This year is the first year that Highland Games will be happening and I'm beyond excited.  I am probably alone in this thought, but there is something about big burly men in kilts throwing around heavy things just does something for me.  At any rate, a friend of mine are going up next Friday for a girls weekend! Very excited, if you're there let me know!

In prep for the Arnold many people who compete (or don't compete) go through a cut phase in their training so they look extra super good.  It's a place full of body builders, athletes, and general fit people and you don't want to go in feeling less than fit.  My training got side tracked by two weeks of antibiotics which knocked my out for the first week.  Seriously, slept everywhere. By the second week I was worried about the detrimental effects they have on connective tissue and chose to hold back on the next phase of my training (6 x 4 at 85-95% of my training max).  This pushed back my ability to start a high volume phase to try to define my muscles a little more to a two week, rather than 3 week period.  In short, it's been a cluster f***.  This leads me to the current stage of high volume workouts.  I will post them on here when I have more time, but to be honest they are not as bad as I thought they would be.  At least, the first workout wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I am going off of a template made up by a doctoral student I work with, so if the numbers seem a bit crazy blame him.  This is my first attempt at anything like this so my failure can be your learning.  Let's do this thing!
