Happy New Year!!!!!

The new year is upon us and it is time for resolutions, crowded gyms, picked through produce, and countless people saying "New Year New Me".  This is very good, however many people go out and party on New Year's Ever, and wake up the next day hungover and tired.  Not the best way to start your new year eh? I'm not saying that drinking is bad and you should never do it, but be mindful of what you are consuming.  Alcohol has many hidden calories (yes even vodka) and most people aren't aware of it.
Alcohol can be good in small amounts, but bad in larger amounts.  There have been studies to suggest that a glass of red wine a day or one serving of alcohol a day can be beneficial.  If it is not beneficial it is, in the very least, not detrimental to wellness.  Too much alcohol however, can cause nutrient deficiencies, cirrhosis of the liver, and weight gain.  The weight gain comes from alcohol's calorie content.  Alcohol provides 7 calories per gram of alcohol consumed.  You will note that this is more than carbs and protein, but slightly less than fat.  Along with that many mixed drinks are full of simple sugars to make the drink tastey.  Take this into account when you are tippling this NYE.  Below is a little info-graphic on the amount of exercise you would have to do per drink.

See you next year!!!!!
