Motivation

No matter how focused you are on your goals, at some point you have no desire to drag yourself out of bed and get to the gym.  On top of that all you want is cake and your healthy food looks about as desirable as eating cardboard box.  If you are not careful, this can turn into a vicious cycle of eating the cake and watching movies all day to getting upset that you sat on the couch eating cake and eating more cake on the couch.  Clearly, once motivation is lost it is important to get it back as quickly as possible.  Here are a couple of hints on how to recharge your batteries and come back with a vengeance.

  1. Look at your log book.  If you don't you don't keep a log book, you probably should.  Looking back at it and seeing how far you've come can be very motivating.  If you look back and see that you have not made very many gains you will be able to assess your programming and change things up.  Even though seeing that your training is not really going anywhere can be upsetting getting to change things up is fun and makes you excited to get back in the gym to start fresh.
  2. Look up some new recipes.  Broccoli and grilled chicken can get boring after a while.  Looking up new clean recipes can be fun and tasty.  www.cleaneating.com  has a bunch of good recipes.  www.allrecipes.com has ESHA food labels which makes it easy to decide if the recipe is healthy or not.
  3. Read these articles.  I know they always make me pumped to hit the iron.
     4. For that post workout burn.  Also, the post workout shower, its so much more satisfying when you've sweated a bunch.  The satisfaction of doing it when you started out having no desire to even start the workout is actually very motivating.  You end up proud of yourself at the end. You overcame.

    5. Because you know you can do it.  You have been working too hard to not treat your body as best as you can.

   6. The final piece of motivation is to have someone who has your back.  I like to call them an acountabilabuddy (yes, I stole that from South Park).  Tell this person you don't want to go to the gym and hopefully they will help you back on track.  If they don't help you, you should probably find another acountabilabuddy.

Good luck and keep on truckin'
